I empty it around every oil change just depends on how much it gets driven( I only put about 5000 miles a year on mine.), and no supercharger, naturally aspirated. using a 6.1 intake on my 5.7
Most mount them to a stud on the front of the block. The can will come with a bracket. This was my 2010 RT. I emptied every oil change.
Of interest to some perhaps, the Magnuson supercharger kit includes an oil separator which routes the oil blow by to the new oil filler neck included, eliminating the need to drain a catch can which I think is quite innovative.
Had a similar set up on a cummins engine I ran......only problem is if the oil gets contaminated (water vapor), it goes back to the oil pan too.....
I think that’s defeating the purpose of the catch can. The shit that I find in mine is definitely not just oil and shouldn’t be put back in my combustion system. Edit- realized I had said the PCV was returning to the crankcase rather then through the intake leading to the combustion system.
Yikes! Perhaps I'll have to address this, though I've never removed anything sinister looking from the catch can on my BMW.
Its definitely not just oil it’s catching. The smell is enough to tell me it has no place going back to the motor. Getting rid of any water vapour and acidic material was a selling point to me. Some will argue that they are not necessary. Maybe not, but they definitely do reduce this crap going back into the intake to go through the combustion system. My 6.2 does not collect as much waste as my 5.7 did, I’ve read that this is due to the taller valve clovers. I am also replacing my oil filler cap with a crank case breather to help deal with pressure from the super charger within the valve train on the drivers side.
