This is my newest car (an '09 was my last 'newest') so I am out of touch with technology advances. If my R/T was carjacked and I tossed the key fob out the window, or if I was able to escape the car with the fob in my pocket, would the car keep running indefinitely until shut off?
Thanks! I can see the pros and cons of this I guess. It would be a nice feature on the fob to shut down a theft or worse.
What you do in a case like that is toss the fob, press the ignition button shutting off the engine. Then explain to the transportation challenged idiot that the car can not be started without the fob. Then you will both be transport challenged. Carjacking solved.
The car will keep running and driving until it is shut off from what I was taught, same as if you went back in the house and changed clothes with it running. Once it gets shut off it won't start and while the fob is missing some cars will beep or chime like a seatbelt off is detected. My wife leaves me in the car when she goes in stores and leaves the windows cracked and the radio on.....
^^ I was thinking along those lines as for a good reason to keep the car running, especially in the warm summer months. I sometimes will run into the gas/convenience store after filling up for a bathroom break or drink purchase while leaving my wife in the car with the a/c on and the doors locked. I could leave the fob with her but I would probably forget that it's in my pocket.
No.But your car aint carjacked any longer. What would you prefer to do? Ride the scumbag around all day?
