so how does the modern shaker reduce performance?

Back in the old days, manufacturers didn't worry so much about small things that contribute to combustion efficiency like intake air temp (IAT). So installing a shaker hood scoop actually did offer a slight performance increase because it was basically a cold air intake (CAI). Fast forward several years (decades actually) and OEM's are much better at optimizing engine performance. Our cars are a perfect example. They come from the factory with a very effective CAI. So effective that installing a shaker hood scoop is now actually LESS effective at introducing cool air to the engine. So...
warmer IAT equals slightly lower performance.

My favourite hood is the Shaker. I tried to find a Shaker for my RT when I had it but due to the Edelbrock intake I couldn’t put one on without major mods.
I am now looking at adding an aFe Power CAI mainly to add more supercharger sound. I also like the look under the hood. It’s a huge filter with a partition that blocks engine bay heat. They claim it had HP and torque improvements when dyno’d....not sure I believe their claims, we’ll see.

I’d be very surprised if it adds anything but noise.

    SWEET noise....:D

37 HP is quite a bit just by changing an intake.

    Never gonna happen.
In my experience, some of the worst intake systems only gain at best maybe 10-15hp when a high quality CAI was installed. Your intake system is actually quite efficient so the idea of a 37hp has been advertised is ludicrous IMO.

Excellent choice! The 345 HEMI is 70's fast, and that's fast enough.

As ludicrous as referring to a Challenger 392 R/T as a "Scat Pack". Someone neglected to inform Dodge that The Scat Pack was a marketing campaign; used to promote a group of MOPAR muscle cars. Not a single model.

What loss of performance have you noticed? I've owned two 1968 R/T shaker conversions, one 2016 R/T "T" hood and a 2020 R/T shaker. There is no noticeable reduction in performance.

Thank you! Finally someone sees what I am talking about. This 2020 R/T of mine gives me the same wonderful feelings as my 1974 Plymouth 'Cuda, yet this R/T is actually faster and has so many outstanding features. The Brembo brakes are very impressive (I have never had them before on any car) and the performance upgrades that came with my car, and all the R/T models that are offered in that list in my first thread, make it the perfect machine for me.
