I agree with you. Dodge took the cheap way out with the wheel flares. Personally, I don't like any flares. I am a purist and want to keep my 2009 SRT as close to the design of the 1970 Challenger as possible.

The magnetic system is pure genius. No mods - easily put back to stock.

My uncle and his Scat Pack Club buddies use to refer to the Daytona/Superbird as a "circus wagon". As cool as they are now, most guys did not desire them as a street machine. His opinion on the WB is equally derogatory. Not my cup of tea, but I can see where others would dig it. Installing them on a 50th anniversary Challenger makes no sense whatsoever. I think most of us who were actually around in the late 1960's and 1970's, lean toward the traditional design.

Now, if we could just get a proper set of MOPAR Rallye wheels in the current bolt pattern. o_O

Yeah, until one gets destroyed in a car wash. No thanks.

I agree with your uncle. Back in the day, we all thought the Superbird was one of the most hideous things around. But then we were also doing a lot of questionable things to our cars back then that we now look back on and ask "what was I thinking?". Personally, I didn't originally like the flares on the Challenger when they first appeared on the Demon but I gotta say they grew on me. IMO, besides the obvious traction and handling boost, the Widebody cars simply have a much more menacing look on the street and that's what these cars are all about. Could they have done a widebody kit more like the Corvette Z06? Sure, but who would buy it? The price would be ridiculous. So yeah, I understand the gripes about the flares but anyone who complains just isn't being realistic.

Circa 1979: I had the opportunity to purchase a mint condition, all stock 1970 Superbird (440/6 Pack w/manual) for $5555.00 from Jim Lash Blue Book Cars in Sanford, FL. I asked my dad to loan me half the money, but he refused. His reply... "You'll kill yourself in that car." Seeing as how I was 17 and as wild as they come, I suppose he had a good reason to say no.

Wow. Again a lot of great advice and opinions. Whether you like the flares or not it is an opinion and to each there own. That’s what makes us all great. The love of cars!
Mopars, Camaro’s, Mustangs, Corvettes etc ... we all love what we love and that is a beautiful thing. Does it represent 50 years ago ? Maybe or maybe not?
But isn’t it cool that we have what we have now to almost replicate the cars of 50 years ago ??!
I think that is so awesome.
Thanks to everyone that has offered an opinion and heartfelt advice and I wish you all the best. Thanks everyone.
I will post here what I eventually get.

Carwash vs hand wash? Probably 50/50 for me. It's a Challenger, not a Porsche for God sake.
