Thieves are now targeting catalytic converters, mostly in new car dealerships, to get the palladium metal. (Note- Palladium is part of the platinum family of precious metals. Currently the price is skyrocketing. It is now selling for $2,900 per ounce- more than gold which is selling for $1,872 per ounce).

In a video by Racer X, he shows how a whole fleet of Mitsubishis, in a Texas dealership, had their cats hacked off. This makes the vehicles unsaleable until a completely new exhaust system has to be installed. This new development has compounded the vehicle shortage.

I wonder why dealers don't hire night time security with an attack dog? I think the cost would be worth it.

That would be foolish on their part. Dealers have monthly inventory (i.e., financing) costs and lose money for each month a car sits on their lot without being sold. That's why you can usually get better deals at the end of the month.
