Curious what your guys' thoughts are on a ziebart treatment, would that help mitigate the problem (assuming it still exists) in my 2021 scat pack? I was considering doing this anyway, even though it's never going to be driven in winter weather and I'll be avoiding any rain as much as possible.

I have a 2010 Journey with no rust at all. I get it oil sprayed every other year which has worked well. I think we pay $80 per treatment. It’s a bit messy inside the door jams and under the hood but it beats the alternative.

Have to wonder whether the foam is absorbing water or trapping it from escaping? Not sure what the foams purpose is in being placed there in the first place? Sound dampening?

Ok guys he’s got the solution. Let’s all start packing and head west to save or cars from a problem that is directly caused by the manufacturer. And secondly, had I known about this problem no I wouldn’t have purchased the dam thing. Last I checked it does rain in NV and had this guy done some research instead of criticizing, simple rain exposure is more than enough to water log this foam and begin the process. Not Stellantis fault ? No they only came into the picture a month ago. Jeez

We don’t want anymore of you coming out west ? I thought this forum was for us to discuss our issues and concerns with our Mopars, not denigrate people because of where they are from . I personally did a lot of research on this rust issue and shared what FCA said in response to try and inform everyone . But this guy from Nevada, we’ll aside from not knowing what he’s talking about, needs a lesson on manners. I’m done with this Forum.

^^^^ Hey Liam, Don't leave the forum. Just ignore the posters that you don't like. I have done that already with one guy that always seemed to be negative or nitpicky.
There are too many nice folks here and so much experience to share. All car forum sites have the negative folks. IGNORE if they bother you.

Liam, stick around. Sometimes a person's message doesn't come across as intended in writing. Sarcastic humor? Adding an emojy with the frown, grin, laugh etc. helps imply the meaning of a sentence.
I'm sarcastic most of the time and use it for humor too so I have to watch how I phrase my posts from time to time. I took those comments about east vs west weather as humor, just saying.
When I get a reply that irks me, I take it with a grain of salt and don't let it get under my skin. I must say, it doesn't happen much on this forum.

My uncle purchased a 1968 Charger brand new, and within 2 years it was beginning to rust. He traded it on a 1962 Corvette, and never looked back. My Aunt had a 70's Duster and Demon, same issue. My 1996 Ford Ranger was driven through three winter seasons in NE Ohio, then in Florida for 10 years, then sat on our patio for 6 years. At no point was it ever garaged, and there is not one spot of rust anywhere on the body; even where the fenders were damaged. Same goes with our (now sold) 2000 Silverado. All Ford vehicles are submerged in a zinc electroplating tank. The process is known as "e-coat". Whether or not Dodge vehicles experience the same treatment, I do not know?

Dodge could be using a water-repellant type filler for sound deadening, but they don't. Does it even need sound deadening? The only solution that I can see is to blow the foam out using compressed air (or) find something that will dissolve the foam without doing damage to the body and paint. Phosphoric acid leaves behind a layer of zinc which prevents rust. This is what we use when we strip the liner from the inside of HD motorcycle tanks. That or POR 15. Subjecting one to phosphoric acid would require testing on a surplus piece of metal, equal in both thickness and composition.

I had no idea about this rust problem at all when I bought my '19 GT (my first Mopar) and was very disappointed to find out about it. I was thinking about possibly upgrading to an R/T maybe next year, but with this issue (and the U-Connect delamination problem), I don't know if I want or should spend money on another Dodge--though no problems thus far with my GT. However, I'm in Florida so there's a bunch of rain here year round. Each time I see another Challenger, I try to see if there's any rust in the quarter panel/rocker areas. I have yet to see one Challenger with any visible rust... Stick with Challenger or go back to Camaro??

^^ That's totally up to you but EVERY vehicle has it's 'things', from lowly new cars that sell in the teens to top of the line Corvettes. It didn't stop me from buying my 2020 last year and I would buy another Challenger today. I like the Camaros too but you can't tell me they don't have issues as well.

Since you have been trouble-free thus far, KEEP IT (or upgrade to the R/T next year) and don't worry about it. I realize it rains a lot in FL but just enjoy your ride and don't let a potential issue affect your ownership experience. The rust may never happen.
