Exactly. That's not Dodge telling people not to use it ... that's Mobil 1 telling you not to use it in the 6.1, 6.2, or 6.4 HEMI. However, Mobil 1 does recommend a few of their oil products for the 5.7 HEMI engine. I'm very sure that their engineers are smarter than me.
I have been using Mobil 1 0W-40, the factory-specified oil, in my 6.1 with confidence for the past 12 years. Read my first post in this thread.
Here is a testament for Mobil 1 oil. I read of a Canadian owner a 6.1 2009 Challenger who has used it since inception with great results. He now has an incredible 238,900 miles on his SRT and has had no engine issues. Does this make my point? Other than preventative maintenance, the only repairs have been the stabilizer links and upper lower ball joints.
Just as Mobil 1 has sponsored Stewart-Haas Racing teams in NASCAR for over ten years. True when they raced under the Chevrolet banner and now that they're racing under the Ford banner. I'd love to see Dodge return to NASCAR. But at this point it might not happen until NASCAR goes electric. And I'm guessing (and hope) that will be a long way down the road. But I don't think this picture (courtesy of Jayski.com) means that Ford is going to switch from Motorcraft to Mobil 1.
Impressive, 477 miles more miles than my wife's 5.7 HEMI Jeep Grand Cherokee (Who I have used Valvoline 5-20wt since NEW in 2006) I have only changed plugs twice and oil every 5k.
been using Mobil1 in my 2009 RT since I bought it back in January of 2011. 113,645 miles on it right now. No issues at all. Plus I use the Mopar SRT oil filter.
@SRT-Tom ... I think you'll be pleased (and not necessarily surprised) to hear that the Mobil 1 website has resumed recommending a few of their oil products for the 6.1L HEMI engines. That means that 6.1L owners can rely on Mobil 1's warranty should they have an oil-related issue. So ... as the expression goes ... Buy With Confidence. Here's the link to Mobil 1's website: https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants...i/v1/en-US/oatspvl/recommendation/FawEeHBLr/0 However ... Mobil 1 still does not recommend any of their oil products for the 6.2L nor the 6.4L HEMI engines. So for those engines ... you're using Mobil 1 at your own risk. And until they do make a recommendation that they'll stand behind ... I'll stick with Pennzoil, Amsoil, Schaeffer's, or Valvoline for my '15 SRT 392 and save the Mobil 1 for my '05 Monte Carlo
