Oil catch can a "must"

Everyone I talk to with a Challenger all said the number 1 and very first add/mod should be the oil catch can. So obviously I did the CAI and exhaust first LOL!! I’m at 3k miles now and just installed the Speedlogix catch can today. Super easy to install and feel a bit of relief knowing it’s on.

Anyone doubting the accumulation of oil, take a look at this. This is approximately 5000 miles worth of build-up in my catch can.

 

Hi all! Put my catchcan on at 250 miles and just checked it at 3200 - had about an inch in the bottom. I also went back to the dealer at 600 miles and purchased the lifetime synthetic oil change and did the switch. Like an idiot, I assumed they would have done that correctly and didn't check the levels. At 3200, I'm half a bubble too full. Hope they didn't mess anything up.

 

The Magnuson supercharger kit routes this oil into the filler neck. What my catch can's collect on my BMW's is very clean so I assume the recirculation is clean and safe.

 

I have a JLT billet catch can for sale, used but in nice shape, still looks like new. I removed it from my 2015 6.4 before I sold it. Complete for $100.00.

For greater performance, you can plumb the crankcase vent into a tube angled back into your exhaust system after the catalytic converter, which is a lower pressure zone than before it.

It will positively, very positively, ventilate your crankcase. Racers use this on their race motors, but they go into the header collector, because no catalytic converter.

For this method, I suggest restricting the air going into the crankcase far more than stock, AND putting a vacuum gauge on your valve cover breather/oil cap on valve cover, so you can see if you get some below-atmospheric pressure in the crankcase.

Having zero pressure in the crankcase, as in, a perfect vacuum, reduces windage , makes piston cooling jets more effective, decreases pumping losses, and makes it so there is no "cloud" of oil droplets floating about, as there is no air in which to suspend them.

If you are truly fanatical, you can go with a full dry sump with a five-stage scavenger/crankcase evacuation system.

But, it's cheap and easy to do to allow the exhaust flow to provide some partial vacuum.

 

Curious how you're addressing this issue on your Challenger Moparisto?

 

Is this catch can really necessary? Why? It doesn't come from the factory with one. Put one in and will it void the warranty?
