Two lucky officers there in AZ, that's for sure. That's if the R/T's are assigned individually.
I don't see what the big deal is about as I see Hemi Chargers all over the place. Yes, the 4 doors are what make a real police car as a 2 door ties up another unit when an arrest has to be made. That's the main downside.
The cost is about right as you have to figure in all the police equipment, from computers to radios to emergency lights, even shotgun racks. So much equipment now, with cameras too.

They are the ultimate stealth cars. No one would suspect a Challenger.

That's not the first time Arizona law enforcement got muscle cars.

The Department of Public Safety (our state highway patrol) bought a Challenger in 2016 along with a Mustang.

The Scottsdale Police Department got 3 Bricklin SV-1s in 1974. Powered by 360 cubic inch AMC V-8s they could run door to door with the Corvettes of the day. I recall seeing them occasionally on the street.

^^^ I remember that. One of the Brickline magazines (that's what the Bricklin magazines were called) had an issue about the police cars.
I owned a 1975 Bricklin with the Ford 351 V8 but the 1974 AMC 360 was the better engine of the two plus you could get it with a 4 speed.
Here is a photo of the police car with it's 'bubblegum' light.. Thanks for the memories.

Great! Now I'll have to watch out for undercover Challengers to pull me over. We already have a boatload of undercover chargers here roaming the streets of AZ, why not some Challengers, too?

^^^ Yeah, an unmarked 'anything' is always tough to see. Generally if you keep it under 12 mph over the speed limit (like 67 in a 55 mph zone) you should be OK. Some states are tougher but so many drivers are 20+ mph over the limit, there is less need need to pull over the 'slower' guys and then miss the really flagrant speeder. Of course a slow day can impact things too.

Around here, there are what I call stealth cruisers . Black SUV's , pick-ups and sedans with dark grey "POLICE" markings and low profile light bars. Where's the sport in that? It's like hunting a baited field.
