Well here I am asking another question. Just a reminder that I have a 2018 sxt. I was wondering if it would help to put after market exhaust and/or cold air intake on my challenger? I love it the way it is, but I thought maybe if it would be better with a couple of up grades. Your advice and input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
I do not believe they will impact the performance very much. Nothing noticeable anyway. The exhaust note will obviously be different, and could be much louder, if you are OK with that.
I think louder exhaust would sound kinda cool, but with a six cylinder not sure if it would be really nice. For example, when I retired from the army, I bought my wife a six cylinder mustang and put louder exhaust and a cold air intake. It kinda sounded okay. When we traded it in for a mustang gt and put rousch exhaust on it with the dual exhaust system that came with it. Now it sounds awesome, but it also boosted horsepower. We never put cold air intake on her car. So from this experience, would it be beneficial to try and boost my six cylinder?
^^ It's a very personal decision. Some owners make monsters out of their 6 cylinder cars. Cars that destroy many V8 powered, but I'm personally not a fan of them. I think and prefer V8 for performance and exhaust note. I feel that Dodge nailed it with the 'stock' R/T Hemi exhaust and that nothing else compares. Since you mentioned Mustangs, I also feel the same about my GT's stock exhaust. That's me. Others will feel different. Make yourself happy, that's all that matters.
There's several You Tube videos (with audio) to give you an idea of what the aftermarket exhaust systems sound like, from resonator and/or mid muffler deletes to partial of full exhaust systems. The audio is not a perfect way to select a system but it'll give you an idea of the differences between products. (idle note, popping on deceleration, how rasby it is at high revs, etc.) Its all very subjective. I've been wanted to get a new exhaust system for my 5.7L but am still hesitant on what manufacturer. I'm leaning toward the Flowmaster American Thunder. They also have a few other choices with various levels of exhaust sounds. On You Tube just search for "Challenger SXT exhaust" and they will pop up.
Never mind my post. I finally got my sxt on the open road today. It was awesome!!! She flew down the road so effortlessly and handled all the twists and turns with easy. This is by far the best car I’ve ever had. She is good to go as is. I do plan on putting some stickers on her, but as far as performance, she is good to go
I have a 2017 SXT Plus. The first thing I did to mine was have the resonators removed and then I swapped out the stock mufflers with Jones Exhaust Full Boar Flow Deflector Performance Mufflers, (FB2441). It's loud when I floor it, but not when just driving around, which is exactly what I was going for and expecting after doing my research. I had no plans on adding a cold air intake, but then I decided to add a supercharger and it came with one. I have a 7 mile drive to work, and I occasionally do some 0-60 or 1/4 mile runs on the way to work and on the way home. The temperature makes a huge difference. My morning times when it was in the low to mid 40's were WAY better than my afternoon times when it was in the 80' or higher. If you live in a warm climate, I highly doubt you'd enjoy the benefits of a CAI, but if you're somewhere that gets cooler part of the year, it can make a big difference. I ran a 12.38 in 40 degree weather. When it was in the 80's, I'd run a 13.05 or so. That to me was a big difference.
CAI's do not net you much if any gain at all by it's self and best even with Tune and everything done maybe 2 hp 3 at most. They are mostly Eye Candy...
