It takes little time to dry well enough to install it.My purpose is not performance, but just to have a filter that I dont have to go out and purchase every time, and I can have a perfectly clean running filter anytime I decide to clean it. And unlike a paper filter where you can only beat it against the curb to get the loose dust out of it.

"Project Farm" did a filter test and it showed that while the K&N did flow better, it also allowed more dirt into the engine.

Hi guys, my experience with the earlier Mopar intakes like Tom said it looks good, and I ordered one before my car was even built from Mopar. The problem was I did more cruising in town than I did on the open road. I had terrible heat soak and you could not hardly touch the metal air intake tube "hot". So, I decided to take my car and put it on a chassis dyno- not because of heat soak. So, I took along my stock air cleaner w/a drop in K&N air filter so they made a couple of pulls and changed the fan times on and off with other sensors changed as far as factory settings so they turned off the big fan that was in front of the car off to simulate putting around down the temp went up as far as the tube. The actual engine temp was in reason, so one of the guys said let's put the stock intake back on it and, bingo, it was definitely my problem as for heat soak. So, no more off idle to the floor small hesitation and has response but not as throaty but get up and go. Outside of the Challenger 10, as you all know they are plastic now. I am sure that's why they went that way. There is a lot of engine heat under the hood and the intake filter is right against the coolant recovery tank to boot- only makes sense. Again, this is my experience and if you have a 6.1 engine, I highly recommend putting it on a chassis dyno. It is very cheap HP gain.

Would that Hellcat hood now used on the SP with center air intake with two air deflectors one on each side help cool the engine compartment down?

I haven't encountered this problem because I do mostly highway driving. At speed, the air is moving so fast through the metal tube that I doubt the temperature increases much.
