It's your car, but I wouldn't buy 22-inch tires. They are way too tall and don't look right on a Challenger. The Challenger comes with 20-inch tires for a reason. Look at the photo of a Challenger with 22-inch wheels. They don't belong on a classic muscle car.

You originally stated that you wanted to downsize. I would recommend a 245/45-20 tire.

I agree I would not go 22" just because they look "Funny" to me,
but when the 20" wheel first came out, I thought they looked DUMB

22" vs 20" is WHEEL Size and has little to do if they will fit your car.

I like THIS Web Site: https://tiresize.com/calculator/
It lets you compare tire diameter and shows you what rims widths are recommended.
It also shows you the SIDEWALL difference in Picture Form.
Remember, less sidewall will corner better, but ride stiffer.

    While 245/45-20 did come STOCK,
275/40/20 look better and fit comfortably on 9" rims.

Watch this designer interview (start at 4:00 minute mark) where they discuss why a 20-inch wheel was chosen for the SRT. Their reason was that they wanted to "match the size of the wheels in proportion to the (large) car."

I still wish they would have gone 8" wide front & 10" wide rear
