I have a 2015 Challenger SRT 392 with the 8.4 Infotainment center. That means that my car is just old enough that it doesn't have Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto for navigation. So ... I actually use the built-in navigation system quite a bit.

I noticed a few years ago that Uconnect/Here puts the navigation database updates "On Sale" about this time of year for $99 instead of $149. The newest, latest, greatest updates seem to be released in July/August so I realize that I'm buying almost-old information. But the 2020 Q2 version that I just installed is certainly newer than that 2016 Q4 version that I've been using. Last May, I took advantage of their sale to update the database in our 2017 Durango R/T.

I was thinking about upgrading the NAV in my 2015, I never upgraded it. I never purchased the UConnect after the free 12 month trial, I didn't think it gave me any real benefit for the money.
Do I have to purchase UConnect in order to get the NAV update?

You do not have to subscribe to Uconnect to order the Nav update. You just need to make sure you radio software is current. (Version 18.45.01 for our 2015s.)

I use Waze on my cellphone. Always up-to-date AND it will route you around any traffic jams!

Waze is an excellent tool .... as long as you have a cell signal. We learned this the hard way a few years ago when we were taking a "short cut" through the Ocala National Forest. When I mentioned that I thought we'd gone far enough to have reached our next turn, my wife looked at her phone and realized that the car wasn't moving on the map. No signal. No navigation.

Besides ... my 2015 Challenger SRT does not have Apple CarPlay.

I'm reluctant to just use Waze, Google Maps or Apple's because of lost cell signal. Call me old school but I always have a printed map with me on trips... just in case. I've been relying on the car's NAV and use the iPhone for updated POI like gas stations, food places, etc.
I always wondered how badly your data plan get hit if you use your map app for an 8 hr trip. Anyone ever check to see how many Mb it uses per hour?
