Hello All, I purchased a 2022 Challenger Scat Pack w/ manual transmission in March. I work form home so I don't drive daily so it took a while for me to notice this issue. If I drove and got the engine up to operating temp then let her sit for about 90 minutes I would have an issue starting. It would crank but not turn over. I would have to hold the button for a while and eventually it would. I have a video but it is too large to upload here. Cold crank was never an issue. No codes were ever thrown or recorded. Initially I wasn't sure of the conditions involved in replicating my failure. So it went back to the Dealer multiple times. They did the following: 1) Replaced the fuel pump Did not fix the issue returned to dealer 2) located a bad ground and relay issue Did not fix issue. Returned to dealer. I finally was able to determine the conditions. Drive, park for 90min and try to start. I took her back to the dealership and we were able to replicate it. 3) Replaced the PCM. They tested and it did not fix the issue. They worked with Dodge and determined/proved several of the fuel injectors were leaking. Replaced the fuel injectors and tested. Issue resolved. I have tested this several times since getting her back and have not seen the failure again. I post this to help anyone else who may have seen this behavior and is working with a shop or dealer to resolve.
Leaking fuel injector can be the cause of hard starting A leaking fuel injector or injectors are normally the cause for difficult or hard to start engines especially when they are warm. This is because the fuel rail pressure has dropped and fuel has leaked into the manifold and causes the spark plugs to become flooded. Both top feed and side fuel injectors make use of O-rings to seal between the fuel injector and fuel rail. Fuel injector O-rings can harden and become brittle over time especially those on older vehicles. This can cause both external and internal fuel leaks and should be taken care of immediately.
Glad the problem has been resolved. unfortunately, many "mechanics" just throw parts at the car until they hit on the correct solution.
