Hi all! Brand new 22 SXT V6. I love it! But something is concerning me. When I start up the car, everything is fine while in Park. But when I shift into any gear, it seems the car gets louder a bit. Seems my entire life when I shift into gear before hitting the gas pedal, a car gets a little quieter. Anyway, I can’t say the sound is under the hood or directly under my seat. It just seems to be an all-around, but louder than when in Park. It’s not a clunk, bang, knocking. It’s continuous. Is this normal? Something wrong? Obviously, I will take it back to the dealer, but I’m just looking for general thoughts here, perhaps this is normal for this engine. But frankly, I wouldn’t think so. It’s not a hemi or some souped up version of a hellcat! Thanks…

Does the frequency of the knocking rise with engine RPM?

No. Stays the same. Im not sure it's knocking because its continuous, steady, seems the same at red light as it is on the highway. If I put it in park at a light, the sound goes back to what I call normal. I am not sure if its the engine or transmission because it feels seems around the cabin, underneath, all around me.

Okay, is it above the standard 60Hz hum or is it lower-pitched?

Well I’m not that knowledgeable in that arena, I don’t know. I called the dealer and they said these specific V-6 engines do get a bit louder when shifted into gear, and customers ask about this frequently. This isn’t a dealership that has ever lied before, so I don’t know. I think I will go to a different dealer and test a one and see if it does the same thing.

Good plan. If a close-to-identical engine doesn't do the same thing, then they are dodging warranty work, evidently.
