Check for oil drain plug leak by starting vehicle before sealing up under pan after oil change.

This didn't happen on my Dodge but it did happen on my BMW. I always add the new copper drain plug washer to the old for sealing but didn't this time and had a leak due to the inadequate thickness of just the new washer on it's own (filter kit from China). Fortunately the BMW application has an easy access door to the drain plug and it leaked through immediately upon start-up and I noticed a puddle on the garage floor. Our Dodge application requires removal of at least 4 bolts on that section of the under pan and I doubt we would notice for some time as the leak would accumulate in the under pan for who knows how long before leaking onto the ground. Unfortunately drain plug washers aren't included with very many new filters as they are with BMW (as inadequate as this supplier's is).

 

It’s probably a good idea to keep the info display on the oil pressure one for a while right after an oil change just to make sure nothing catastrophic happens.
Also, the drain plug on my Challenger has a rubber kind of o-ring gasket built into it, so I’m less worried about leaks. Just have to check it each time to make sure it’s not wearing out.
