Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I own a 2009 Challenger SE. I bought it used with a 204000 kms. I'm wondering if there's a way to tell if the timing belt was replaced. I was told it needs to be replaced at 204 miles.

Unless you have confirmation it's been changed assume it hasn't. If it hasn't you're on borrowed time and this engine (interference design) will be damaged if the belt breaks or slips due to wear.

Generally, a timing belt should be replaced between 60,000 and 100,000 miles. The exact number of miles can be found in your owner's manual. On an average, timing belts have a life of 5-10 years.

Many timing belt covers are difficult reach, making visual access to the belt impossible. If you can’t get to the cover without taking half the engine compartment apart, see a mechanic to determine if your car's belt has to be replaced.

If you can get to the belt, it should be taut, with about a 1/4-in. to 1/2-in. deflection when pressed with your thumb along its longest run between gears. It should be smooth and flat (no rounded edges), not glossy or shiny, have no chunks missing, be free of large cracks or peeling and show no signs of fraying. Small surface cracks are okay, but spider cracking on the surface signals extreme wear. Replace the belt if any teeth are missing or contaminated by an oil or coolant leak.

Did you look for a sticker under the hood - maybe on the radiator support? Some shops will put a sticker with that information when the work is performed. You might also check with the dealership to see if they have any records of a replacement. I owned the 3.5 that was in the LH platform (Intrepids, Concorcordes, 300M, etc.) I don't know if it's the same, but it was not a hard job for a DIYer.

BTW the 2009 would be an SE not SXT the SXT is the 3.6 not the 3.5. Also the 2011 was first year of an SXT different Suspension, Different Trans a 5 speed automatic vs the 4 speed automatic. Different Engine and those would be low production number.
