Is this good parking strategy or is this guy asking for trouble?

I would think asking for trouble. Taking two spots in a busy, full lot and in the area where most cars park is too tempting for douchebags. Heck, I have seen comments on forums where these jagoffs get offended when a car is parked in two spaces way out in the south 40 and away from everyone else. It just seems that some folks have real OCD issues to me if 10 feet of pavement offends them so much that they feel a need to vandalize.

Best idea is to find a space near a curb and away from others, park very near the curb (an inch or so) and hope no one notices. With a curb on one side it limits the possible door damage to one side only, and by taking only one space you do not offend the OCD vandals. Also by staying close to the curb it leaves more room between you and the next space.

or don't EVER take your car to the store.

Both, its a great parking strategy but he will eventually get keyed by someone that has the guts to do it. When I park like that, I make sure I farther out so I am not taking a great spots up.

I take two spots, but only in the back 40. I don't like parking up close because to many things can happen.

If you have to park in a lot that has shopping carts, ( I don't) someone suggested to me to place a shopping cart on its side next to your car. Most people are too lazy to get out of their car to move it and will find another space. Simple but effective solution.

If I have to park in a mall parking lot I make sure it is first thing in the morning and in the north forty and I'm not there very long. The plate on the H.O in the first pic. looks
like an Alberta plate even the mall and car look familiar.lol

Fussy about where I park? You bet! If we do take a trip to the mall, I always look for an isolated spot that's in outer limits, on a slight incline (shopping carts don't roll uphill) with one side bounded by a curb. I always tell my wife to bring her New Balances, since we'll be doing some walking.

I agree with everyone else this is a bad parking strategy in a busy shopping center. I try not to take my car out to centers like this but when I do, whoever is with me knows they're going to walk for a a bit. I park as far as I can. I also read somewhere, perhaps on this forum, where someone suggested parking next to "nice" cars. Those drivers would be more likely to be careful when getting in and out of their car. Even if I park far away, I don't think I'd ever take more than one spot.

At work, I've got a pretty sweet spot on a corner of a parking garage. There are two of these spots on each floor. Six of the floors are covered parking and one, the top floor, is not covered. I try to get here early enough so I can make it on the covered area but don't always make it. The spots right next to it, if you angle your car just right, also gives the people next to you extra room to get in and out. I realize the picture is kind of dark but I think it gives you a pretty good idea.
