The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced plans to phase out engine-stop technology in cars. This change is part of a broader deregulation effort to ease federal restrictions on the automotive industry. The EPA will no longer grant carbon credits for vehicles equipped with this system, marking a significant policy reversal in the approach to vehicle fuel economy and emissions controls. U.S. Plans to Kill Engine-Stop Tech at Red Lights, And Here’s Why It Matters
Wonder what % of Challenger owners (and other owners in general) don't shut it off during ignition cycle or long term disable it?
I'm glad that my 6.1 does have this "feature." My son had a leased 2021 Jeep, with this feature and the auxiliary battery went dead. He was turning it in and had to get it fixed. The battery was small and inexpensive but the labor cost was high because it was buried deep in the engine bay. The recommended procedure was to access it from the top of the engine bay after removing several parts- a real PITA. We discovered a quicker DIYA procedure, where you accessed the battery underneath the engine bay, by taking off the passenger front wheel and part of the fender liner.
My 2023 Jeep Gladiator has the start/stop feature. I turn it off shortly after start. I hate it and that aux battery, from what I've heard, can kill the main battery if it goes out.
Wifes Jeep Grand Cherokee came with this crap feature, and she could push the button on the dash to turn it off or push the brake pedal lightly at stop lights, and the engine would keep running. But she wanted it disabled completely, so I instilled the anti-stop module. This is as annoying as the MDS on my Ram, so I just select Manual gear 8 and it turns it off. Fortunately, my 2023 Challenger RT does not have the stupid feature.
I recently rented a car with this feature, and I don’t care for it either. Seems like a lot of wear and tear on the starter. But I question how much gasoline it really saves. An ounce? Try this… if you own a motorcycle, start it up then turn off the petcock. See how long it runs on just the gas in the float bowls.
I tried to see the fuel saving in the jeep by comparing the mileage per tank full with the same types of driving with the auto stop enabled and disabled. I found only find a very little savings if any Same goes for MDS. I did the same test on my 17 Ram 1500 and actually got better mileage with it turned off.
Once again, the people enjoy the benefits of a government not completely run by people who hate the country with a violent passion coupled with endless greed and, of course, being manipulated by blackmail videos of them being held over their heads, or at least less of that. Imagine if the entire government loved the people and worked only in their best interests.
