Salesman said just regular unleaded. Manual mentions 91. What is everyone using in their babies? Mine is a 2013 RT.
My manual says regular is fine but I use Premium. It may be psychological, but I feel my car runs better and responds faster with Premium.
I asked about that with one of the service dept guys while I was waiting for my R/T to be detailed and he said always use premium, so I took his word for it. It might very well be psychological, but I'm not willing to take that chance. A few extra cents per gallon is worth the risk.
I use 91 in my SRT and it runs great. With modern computer-controlled engines, you won't damage your engine by using lower octane gas, because the computer will retard the ignition. You will only get diminished performance. Not worth it for only a few cents per gallon difference.
I've run 93 octane from day 1. It's true while you can run a lower grade, I hate the idea of timing pull when I may need all my HP the most. I also found a station here in town that has ethanol free 93 and for a few more cents a gallon, I know it's a true 93.
The manual states for the 5.7 liter automatics that regular is fine. But 5.7 liter manuals require 91 or higher. My salesman put 87 in my baby girl and tried to tell me it was ok for her. I was like, "dude.... can you read?"
My 2010 manual recommends 89 (mid grade) for the 5.7 auto, which is what I ran until I did the Trinity 91 octane tune. No problems with the factory tune and 89 for city and a couple 3000 mile road trips.
