    The designs of the 1969 Daytona and 1970 Superbird represented a technological leap for NASCAR racing. However, Dodge and Plymouth had a hard time selling them to the general public because they were too radical and not practical for the street.

    I once read that some dealers who were stuck with these cars actually converted them back to standard Chargers and Road Runners.

    Who knew then that they would become expensive collector cars 55 years' later.
