Here is an interesting video where a mechanic explains why the industry is going to turbo cars (emissions) and how to properly maintain them to insure that they last. The biggest take-away is to change your engine oil every 3,000 miles.
The first turbo car I owned, an 84 Ford T-Bird, I changed the oil every 1,500. A little excessive, I knew there was a concern about the turbos cooking the oil, I also idled the car prior to shutting it down after driving to let the turbo cool down some. I never had a significant issue with the car, engine or turbo related.
