I’ve used Mobil 1 pretty consistently over the years, but based on that science lesson I’m willing to switch to Pennzoil.

I also have a Honda CB1100F, air-cooled, which runs much hotter than a water-cooled car engine. For that, I’ve always used Castrol 20w50 conventional oil, because the one time I tried synthetic oil it seemed to sound a little more noisy. Maybe that was just my imagination. Any recommendation for the best oil to use in that critter?

I have used Chevron Delo 400 Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oil SAE 15W-40 in my Yamaha Super Tenere. I have run the motorcycle for 200 miles at 100+°F air temperature with no issues. The Yamaha has good cooling with a water to air radiator that keeps engine coolant temperature about 100°F above ambient air temp. But I have no idea of engine oil temp other than that the MC runs just a quiet when this hot as at lower temperatures. Delo 400 is formulated with very heavily hydro-processed conventional base that is the functional equivalent of PAO. This is a very good option for MC engine oil as it has the ZnDTP level of older gasoline engine oils.

Autoblog recently had this to say about Mobil 1 0W-40 oil.

"Mobil 1’s Supercar 0W-40 (formerly ESP Formula) is designed for severe-duty, high-load and high-heat driving, offering better film strength for high-performance engines. This oil spec is often preferred for engines prone to oil consumption or tracking.

FS 0W-40 has broader applications, than 0W-20 providing all-around performance for a wide range of high-performance gasoline and diesel engines, often meeting specifications for European manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche. As a result, it’s considered a standard high-performance option, particularly for European luxury cars.

Both engine oil specs meet the GM dexosR specification, meaning they are designed specifically for high-load vehicles like the Corvette, particularly for track use.
