Autos.yahoo is reporting that there will be no 5.7 HEMI engine in the new Charger. The 5.7-liter Hemi, once a staple of Dodge’s performance lineup, is unlikely to return for the new Charger. The reasoning centers on performance realities rather than nostalgia. Under modern emissions requirements and internal benchmarks, the engine no longer fits Dodge’s evolving strategy.

The company’s newer 3.0-liter twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six has reshaped the lineup. Even in its base form, the Hurricane delivers strong output, while the high-output version surpasses the performance of the outgoing 6.4-liter Hemi. By comparison, the 5.7-liter Hemi produces 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, figures that no longer stand out within Dodge’s current portfolio.

Beyond performance metrics, Dodge sees practical challenges in expanding engine choices. Offering too many powertrain options creates complications for manufacturing and inventory, limiting what dealers can realistically stock and sell. Streamlining the lineup allows Dodge to focus resources on configurations that deliver clear value and market impact.

Rather than reviving multiple V8 variants, Dodge appears intent on concentrating excitement around a single flagship offering- an 800 hp. Hellcat. The approach pairs everyday performance from the Hurricane engines with the potential for a headline-grabbing Hellcat halo car designed to attract attention and reinforce the brand’s performance credentials.

As expected.. the inline 6 is a little more fuel efficient lighter weight, more power. What you don't know is reliability for the long term..

Repair cost to replace turbos etc...

That would be my concern, too.

I haven't examined the new Charger in person, but I have read that it is full of cheap plastic parts, including the engine bay, that may not hold up after thousands of heat cycles. Also, underneath the car, the oil pan is plastic, with a plastic nut and most of the panels are water-resistant cardboard-like pieces. All this in a $70K car?

No thanks, I'll keep my 2009 SRT.

One deal is ridiculous. If you take out a Dodge Drive Plus Mastercard, your APR for the first 12 months will be 0%. Sounds great, doesn't it?

But here's the catch. After the first 12 months expires, your APR will skyrocket to 29.49%.

It looks like a 2027 Charger Hellcat is under development. Expect to pay $85-90K.
