Well in all my years I've never prefilled the filter. It's simple enough to do so I guess maybe I'll start. Well except my F150 because the filter is SIDEWAYS.

When I wanted to do a really thorough oil change, I changed the oil out for some cheap synthetic and ran around for a week or so, then parked the truck, put a couple gallons of diesel in the oil fill hole and idled the motor for fifteen minutes or more to really clean out the gunk, then drained it and put in the Amsoil. I would do the same to any engine that I wanted to get really clean at an oil change. Diesel is oily in itself, so it is not going to result in scuffed anything. The greatest filtration system has yet to be invented, the a combination of a Frantz toilet paper bypass filter plus a centrifugal and magnetic set of filters could keep the oil cleaner. Also the technology known as "rebuild the motor, you cheapskate" can help oil stay cleaner than loose, ratt(l)y tolerances letting by maximum particulate blowby. My truck has had pitch black oil minutes after an oil change. Rather than suspecting DEI/Minnesota levels of replacement, I suspect it could use a freshening up, but the Hayabusa yonder has been flirting with me like a Japanese plus-size model aka a person close to normal size for me. Priorities.
