This fascinating video describes how Sox & Martin dominated Super Stock, in 1968-69, with a secret internal modification to the 426's oil galleries that allowed the non-boosted engine to produce an incredible 820 hp. (a 100 hp. gain) at 9,000 rpm, without destroying itself.

Eventually, the NHRA and other racers caught on and some of these innovative techniques even made it to our modern-day HEMIs.

Insufficient lubrication is a design short commonly experienced, catastrophically, by many in our modern day HEMIs!
