A 1970 race-ready HEMI Challenger, is being offered for sale, showcasing its transformation from a plum crazy factory muscle car into a purpose-built Pro Stock machine. Listed at $69,900, the vehicle is on consignment at GR Auto Gallery of Metro Detroit. This car was converted into a Pro Stock backup car for racing figure Mike Fons and is associated with the Rod Shop Car out of Columbus, Ohio. The build was completed on a John Holt chassis, underscoring its focus on competitive racing performance rather than factory originality. The 426 engine has been enhanced with aluminum heads and a Tunnel Ram intake system paired with Dominator carburetors, creating a setup designed for maximum airflow and power. The drivetrain includes a G-Force four-speed manual transmission and a Black Magic racing clutch, channeling output to a Dana rear end equipped with 4.88 gearing. Performance figures indicate the car is capable of completing the quarter mile in approximately 8.80 seconds. Additional race-focused features include a wheelie bar, parachute system, carbon quick-disconnect steering wheel, Auto Meter instrumentation, and a specialized fuel cell. 1970 Dodge Challenger | GR Auto Gallery

A well tuned hellcat would eat it with the A/C on blowing cold air and the stereo blasting......In 1970, Pro Stock cars typically ran the quarter-mile in the 9-to-10-second range. The first official Pro Stock race at the NHRA Winternationals was won by Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins with an elapsed time (ET) of 9.99 seconds. Later that season, "Dyno" Don Nicholson set the unofficial ET record at 9.81. So which of the cars would you want?
That's correct. This highly modified 426, with its modern technology, would easily beat a Hellcat and would give a Demon 170 a run for its money.
tommy i am talking back in the early 70's in pro stock? you are talking now , this hemi sounds sick. you better open a book or watch a old video up from back in the day , the hemi super shockers in the hemi challenge today runs in the low eights ? again i am talking back in the day not today with modern technology
I am well aware of the performance of the 70s Pro Stock cars. They were pushing 600 hp. My friend (a Chevy lover) and I used to go to the Atco Dragway to see Ronnie Sox's 426 'Cuda match race against Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins' 427 Camaro. They were at the top of their game back then and ran in the high 9s/low 10s at over 150 mph. In 1970, Sox won the Pro Stock Championship with a 9.78 sec. run.
i am glad you got educated on it. I too have seen all the famous drivers from 1967 to this year in Sept at the" Big Go " ( US Nationals )
