Hello everyone!!! I am new to this forum, so bear with me on any mistakes I may make.

I recently purchased a 1974 Challenger that I am going to restore. I have been a Chevrolet man for years, but I grew up watching my Dad drag race Dodges. His car of choice was a 1970 Challenger. While this 74 model will never be the 70 he drag raced, I am wanting to restore this car to help bring back all of those wonderful memories spent at the drag strip back in the 70's and early 80's.

Dad is 70 now himself, and this restoration is also for him. He has that glimmer in his eyes of years gone by every time he gets near it. I have promised him the keys for the weekend when I get it done, as long as he has Mom home by midnight. Isn't it funny how time can reverse the roles of parents and children!

Now on to the question...I want to get rid of those awful "safety" bumpers found on the 74 model. From what I am finding on the web, it is not just a simple swap of putting the bumpers from a 70/71 model on this 74. I know the 70 bumpers sit closer to the body, but I am not sure what all has to be changed. Has anyone on here done that swap that could tell me "exactly" what needs to be done to make this work?

Also, I want to add a rear valance that has the exhaust cut outs. There again, the 70/71 models are different from the 72-74 models and from what I am hearing, depending on which bumper set up I go with will determine which valance I have to use.

I am in the body work stage now, so I really need to get this resolved. If I go with the 70/71 bumper set up, I have some trim holes I will have to weld up on the 74 that the 70/71's don't use

Thanks for any help you can give!!
