Hey guys, in the market for a new ride and was thinking about finally getting my dream car (my first dream car was my go mango 1970 challenger R/T). I've wanted one of the new ones since I first saw one on the back of a truck. Question: is there a giant difference between 2010,2011,2012 (the one I think I want) and 2013 R/T models? Also- how long have you guys had some of yours? Ie mileage, how're they holding up years later etc. looking forward to reading some thoughts and opinions.
2009-2010, are exactly the same. 2011-2013 are also the same. All R/T's have the same 5.7L Hemi, The 2011-2013 have a different ECU. I also believe the suspension is different in the newer models. Other changes are the dash and steering wheel. Beyond that I do not think there is any other differences. I have had mine since early 2011. I had a plum crazy 1972 in 2007 when they announced the "new" Challenger. I said then that I would only buy a new one if it came in PCP. Then I was given an offer on the 1972 that I couldn't turn down and was Challenger-less for 3 years. I had another project so I kept myself occupied. In early 2011, I started looking at a new car and discovered the news that Dodge did PCP in 2010. I almost missed it. Upon reading this exciting (at least to me) news about plum crazy, I immediately contacted dealers. I found a PCP SRT8 in Texas that I really liked, but the dealer was not willing to work with me at all as my credit was not exactly stellar. A co-worker had just purchased a new Maxima and suggested that I talk to his dealer. He was able to find me one of the last 3 PCP 6-speeds still new on a lot in Michigan. Two weeks later, I had my baby. She doesn't see bad weather and is stored winters, so now she has about 14,000 miles on the odometer. Only issue that I have seen is the trim on the top of the door panel cracked. This was a common problem and was quickly fixed under warranty. No other problems since.
Cool story. I got my '70 from the original owner. I planned on painting it sublime, but I buffed out the flat orange paint and discovered the truly delicious go-mango color underneath. I fell on love with the color and I want it again. Looks like dodge discontinued the header orange this year. I'm going to try hard to find an R/T in this color. Want it so bad I can taste it.
You will really like the R/T. It is a great car. Except for small differences as noted by jonmandude. The 2009 -now are exciting cars. I have a retro T/A package on my 2010 R/T. I also have 8800 miles on her.
I have an SRT but have had minimal problems with it since I purchased it in December 2008. Under warranty, the following work was done: PCM reflashed for driveability Key FOB reflashed New/larger battery and cable Cracked rocker panels replaced
I've got a 2010 R/T with 40,000 miles on it. I've had zero problems and I've driven the snot out of it since day 1. I've modded mine quite a bit so I have a lot of non Dodge parts on it now No regrets. I saw a commercial advertising some incentives for new R/T's as well. Best of luck to you!
I have a 2012 R\T Classic and have had two issues. One was the windshield not being sealed correctly and the other was the airbag light came on and off randomly. Both were under warranty. I currently have 9K miles on it. If I was going to do anything different, I'd get the manual. Not only is it better but it seems like you can easily, for lack of a better word, 'outgrow' the automatic.
I have a 2012 RT Classic also - Stinger Yellow. Got it in fall and drive it every day. Previously had a 2010 SE - that was a great car too. Got an Excellent trade in value on it when I got the 2012 RT Classic. As for exterior changes a few subtle ones. In 2011 they changed the exterior door handles and got rid of the nose badge. Ram center wheels hubs changed to "Dodge". Later cars have different lower valance. Early cars smile, Later cars frown. You can't go wrong with any Challenger. You can get $3,000 factory incentive on left over 2012's if you want to look at those now, couple that with some invoice pricing and you got a nice deal - go look !
