What do you guys think of these Daytona and Superbird conversions? If you had the money, would you do it to your Challenger? They are very unique looking but, in my opinion, are trying to be something that they are not.
They are cool. Richard Petty's Garage has done a couple. They are different, but I like my look. They should try that look on one of the new Chargers.
Ya I totally agree with you Tom, it seems like they are reaching for something & not quite hitting the proverbial home run!.
Agree with above, not for me. Certainly appreciate the original Superbirds and Daytona's but not sure with today's aerodynamics, computers, etc the huge wing is necessary for high speed handling.
I never really like the cover up type mods, but these look good. Still, its a copy cat and not the real thing. Now if Dodge decided to make the super bird again, I know the style will fit perfectly with the challenger look.
I have an old motor trend August 1969 with stories about the winged warriors from nascar and the wings were actualy aircraft style wings that were inverted providing negetive lift without the drag associated with diversion type spoilers, even with todays computer designed cars you can't get that. I would love to put a wing on my challenger maybe even the low drag front facia but with a cost of 8000 for the two mods I am happy with my girl.
not sure what you mean by "real thing" none of the cars sold by Chrysler through dealerships were the real thing they were just copies of the Daytona's and the Superbird's. In order for the cars to qualify for nascar one car had to be sold for every two dealerships turns out that is the number sold! And as far as performance I think with the aerodynamics with the front facia and the wing the new style Daytona and Superbird would give the older version a serious run for there money. If I am not mistaken the Charger Daytona with the 426 Hemi still only turned the quarter mile in a little over 12 seconds by comparison the Daytona Shelby turned the quarter mile in a little ove 13 seconds. I think the Challenger with the Hemi is the real deal with or without the nose and tail. just my humble opinion. but then I have allways loved the big tail.
I guess I was meaning to say Road Runners. Superbirds were built for just NASCAR but about 2000 where sold to the public.
