I do about 5-10 shows. I usually will bring home a first or second. But I don't expect anything. I generally will show up, wipe the bugs off, register, and then go look at the other cars while talking with friends. The show should never be about awards or recognition. It should be about sharing the hobby with others.
This is a good thread start Tom. It is cool to see all the different trophies and events people take their rides to.
I found an excellent 30-page illustrated guide on car show tips. It was written by a car judge and really shows you the do's and don'ts about how to display your car. Car Show Tips
There was a local car show near me. I entered and got a "Top 20" trophy. There were about 75 cars. The show was dominated by Mustangs and Camaros. There were four modern Challengers, a modern Charger with lambo doors, and a 1967 GTX. The overall winner was a custom 1956 Chevy.
Last year at one show I finished 2nd to a decked out Shelby I was parked next to. The owner and I hit it off and had a great time visiting. At the next show we were both at, parked next to each other, I got 1st, he got 2nd Last show I went to there was 4 Challengers in our division. 1st place went to a bone stock, cloth interior, 18" wheel, base model with no mods other than having a Alf doll sitting on top of the V6. Most of the shows I got to a benefit shows so I don't particularly care if I win or not, just enjoy visiting and talking about cars.
