Old vs New

    Forgive me if this has been covered countless times - better yet, point me to the thread - but I want to know from those that have driven both the original Challanger and the newer version what your impressions are regarding the differences.

    I know what i think they would be but would like real-world opinions.

    I had a 72 5 years ago, and have had the new one for going on 3 years. It is apples and oranges. They are honestly completely different in every way, except shape and name.
    Braking is no comparison, as the originals were in the time of drums.
    Handling is also no comparison. Original muscle cars were designed for simple straight line speed, not turning or stopping.
    And about straight line speed? The new ones will out perform there as well.
    Comfort? New is much more comfortable.

    Now, if you want to talk about making an impression, nothing beats an original for being.....well, original.

    Yeah, apples and orange. Drove a 1969 Road Runner 383, dual quads, headers, cam, Hurst, all the good stuff for back then. It ran good but compared to today's cars... no chance. When mine was 100% stock I drove it 700 miles across country, raced it, ran low 13's, then drove it 700 miles home with the A/C running on high, Sat radio cranked, leather seats reclined, and getting 25mpg.

    Having said that.... dang I wish I had that old Road Runner back :)

    I got one of each. It's like night and day. The new srt is a great car but its to sifistacated wild the 70 is a in your face hot rod. you have to drive one to under stand it. Its got a soul a lope and an attitude. If I had to lose one it would most likely be the srt. sad to say.

    I bought my 1970 R/T from the original owner and put about $15K into it. It was my daily driver for a while. I even drove it from ca to co and back. 383 magnum, A727 torqueflight. The first thing I did was rebuild the suspension using modern components. The car was GO-MANGO with black R/T stripes and hood blackout. The car was amazing.

    I drove a 2013 R/T the other day (black with black strobe stripes and a TA hood). The differences are too many to list. 40-plus-years of technology differences doesn't even scratch the surface. They're both absolutely amazing vehicles, just in different ways. My '70 was loud and rude and would just go sideways when I put the petal to the floor. Old school. Gotta love it.

    I want to see pics of them sitting next to each other mojunk! I am a huge fan of classic muscle and I also love the new items that come with a new car too. I want both of course.

    All,

    I had a '70 Cuda 383 Magnum convertible for about 6 years. It ate 5 automatic transmissions before I bought it, and I put in the 6th. I loved the look of the car, and the power, but it was a rattle trap. If I had the money, I would have redone the entire suspension, but times were financially tough in 1986 and it had to go. Actually there's plenty of room in my heart for the old and new Challengers. 1970 and 1971 were the absolute best years for all the American muscle cars. It's great to see them still in their glory at the car shows. In 30 years our modern Challengers will be viewed the same way by people who aren't even born yet.

    I'd like to think I'm going to keep my 2012 forever and one day, my grand kids will think how cool my car is. But dang it...I can't stop driving it!
