If you are thinking about going "old school" with a staggered tire set-up (e.g., 245/45/20 on front and 275/40/20 on rear), you should be aware of an unusual problem. If only the rear tires are new, they may trigger the active handling/ traction light when cornering aggressively. You may also hear them screeching and feel the ESP applying the brakes. This is because of the disparity of the tread between the front and rear tires. New tires have a break- in period of up to 500 miles and are not as responsive as the worn tires in the front. While the rear tires are breaking-in, you can minimize the problem by running 26-30 lbs. of pressure in the bigger (higher load capacity) rear tires.
I had read the same thing before I put the staggered setup on mine, 245/45/20 front and 295/35/20 rears, but so far after 15,000 or so miles I've had no issues. Having said that mine is a six speed manual. The auto's may have issues, I have seen some auto cars that do weird things on the dyno unless you put them in "Dyno" mode with a Predator/Trinity.
You only would have noticed the problem in the first 500 miles. Since you did not, were your front tires new?
Yes, had 4 new tires installed on 4 new wheels! I wonder if the difference is the manuals vs. auto's. I know the auto's are more sensitive on the dyno's and go into limp mode sometimes when the rears are turning and the fronts aren't.
