TOM, over on another forum challenger talk.com there is a 500 plus page topic on this T/C problem and corporate people who can do something but then the corporate lawyers tell them to say nothing. one such individual by the name of Pietro G. they have been watching this forum topic very closely and have had corporate meetings where the forums topics about this timing chain problem have been addressed. There was a car show event somewhere that some corporate big shots were speaking and the T/C issue came up. This guy pietro told them that they can CALL him personally about problems & people have to a point where challenger owners were having TC failures & yet the different dealerships were not addressing it saying they NEVER heard of the problem & that it does not exist. One forum member heard his engine making the same noises that were described by others who had the TC failures and he went to his dealer who refused to do anything. They told him to buy better gasoline. he told them exactly what was going on & still they turned him away. 3 weeks later BAM wife driving and it stopped in the middle of the freeway. he towed it to the dealership who would only replace the parts that couldn't be reused & he told them ALL the parts had to be changed. he finally called pietros office and in 30 minutes the service manager came out to himwith his hat in hand apologizing to him. pietro called that dealership and pietro G is the CEO of the dodge brand or the SRT brand I can't remember exactly. this has happened several times helping out challenger owners in order for them to receive the correct parts & repair. I have a 2013 R/T with MDS and I am very concerened and emailed pietro and 10 minutes later I got a call from pietros personal secretary/assistant & I explained to her my disabled wife having to remain in a climate controlled environment like A/C on hot summer days and a breakdown that causes the engine & A/C to stop working could be fatal to her since her body is unable to cool itself in heat with her muscular Dystrophy. Jill Carter is the womans name and she told me that pietro is working on this as I had asked if it was possible for them to find out IF my challenger had the new TC parts in my engine. I gave them my vin # and build date and jill said she would stay in contact with me a couple times a month & she did. well I got an email on jan. 3 2014 saying she would be calling me & 10 minutes later my phone rang. Jill told me that yes my engine was built in sept. 2012 & the car build on oct. 16, 2012 and yes, all of the new redesigned TC parts were in my Challenger and the factory had started installing these parts in challengers as of October 2011. I will paste the topic I wrote in the forum topic .

UPDATE TO THE TIMING CHAIN PROBLEM ON CHALLENGERS WITH 5.7 HEMI, MDS ENGINES. I just received an email from Jill carter letting me know that she would be calling me with new information on the timing chain issue. That phone call came within 10 minutes of that email. Jill said that before they said anything the engineers & everyone else involved wanted to be sure the information was correct , so here it is. Jill said that my engine on my 2013 Challenger R/T plus was built on September 3, 2012 & my car built on October 16, 2012 and my engine had the new, updated parts ! Jill went on to say that the NEW TIMING CHAIN PARTS WERE INSTALLED ON ALL OF THE CHALLENGERS AS OF OCTOBER 2011.
I asked Jill if Dodge was going to notify the dodge dealerships service departments describing the timing Chain problem & she said YES, & this will be happening within the next month or two. Dodge engineers wanted to be absolutely sure the information was correct, Now hopefully, these dealerships who say they never heard or saw any timing chain failures will have this new updated information. I am VERY RELIEVED to know that my 2013 Challenger R/T PLUS 5.7 hemi automatic transmission has all the NEW, redesigned timing chain parts. I just wanted to pass along this very important information to everyone here.

Is there a service or recall number to have your 2010 checked at the dealership's cost. I only have 11K on mine.

    Thanks From DodgeCares

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We really want to thank everyone who wrote us, (Pietro), with their timing chain concerns. The engineering team has completed their work and the following statement has been released. If there are any questions, reach out to us on this forum as opposed to sending an email as that will be quicker.

Chrysler Group is launching a customer-service action to bolster timing-chain system durability in certain cars equipped with 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engines.

The decision follows an extensive investigation to determine the precise issue and appropriate remedy.
The investigation discovered the engine’s fuel-saving cylinder-deactivation technology may cause an adverse interaction with the timing-chain system. (Chrysler Group is unaware of any related injuries or accidents.) As a result, the Company will replace – at no cost to customers – the timing chains, tensioners and guides in certain vehicles built between Aug. 4, 2008 and July 10, 2012.

Affected are certain model-year 2009-2012 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 full-size sedans, and Dodge Challenger sport coupes. The scope is limited to vehicles equipped with 5-speed automatic transmissions and axle ratios of 3.06, 3.73 or 3.92.

Beginning this month, Chrysler Group will contact affected customers with instructions to schedule service appointments with their dealers.

Chrysler Group greatly appreciates the patience demonstrated by its customers while this issue was under investigation. The Company also values and shares the passion expressed on these pages by customers and fans alike.

    Thanks,

    DodgeCares

It appears that the TC bulletin only applies to 5.7L with the automatic transmission. 6 speed equipped cars are not included in the recall.

    You can go to Dodge.com
Click on "Owners" at the top of the page
at the bottom "Owners" page, go to "Recall Search" enter your VIN and you can find out if your car is included in the recall.

There have been no 6 speed cars involved, only the 5.7 automatics with MDS. it is the MDS and VVT that do not play well together and at a certain RPM ( cruise control at highway speeds ) have been the most common with most cars at around 35-40000 miles. some higher & a few as low as 14,000 miles.

That "no 6 speeds" was a pretty early clue it had to be related to the MDS issue. Only time I regret not having an automatic is when I'm staging for the 1/4 mile :)

Chrysler has finally admitted that there is a problem with the timing chains on the 2009-2012 5.7 autos with MDS. Here is the recall information:
