    Hi Mopar Fanatics!

I used to have a 70 Challenger R/T Convertible, but unwisely sold it in 2000.

Waited in vain for Dodge to come out with a Challenger Convertible again to no avail

Finally just bought a 2021 Scat Pack Wide Body, and then had it turned into a convertible.

Now, all is right with the world again!

Looks great. Who did the conversion and how much did it cost?

How did they compensate for the lost structural integrity? Does it ride much more poorly as my C4 coupe did with roof removed?

I was thinking the same thing. Normally, a converter uses welded-in aluminum tubing to replace much of the structural integrity lost along with the original roof.

Oh man! I forgot how bad that was. Factory made 'verts are fine normally (have owned many) but that C4 without the roof, WOW!! I rarely removed it.

Michael Newell, just a gorgeous car in my book. You certainly went first class with this purchase and I wish you the best with it. I really enjoy my convertibles too.

I first heard about the conversion through an online article of how a North Carolina Dodge Dealer was selling both a Hellcat, and I believe an R/T Challenger convertible. All with the full Chrysler warranty. Called the dealership, and they indicated that both cars had been sold, and they had no idea if they were going to commission more convertible conversions.

I then contacted the shop that had done the conversions, and talked to them at length about the conversion process. Then I actually went to the shop (twice) to tour the shop and look at Challengers currently undergoing the conversion. The shop has a history of converting other makes and models, but is moving towards specializing in just doing Challengers. Each time I visited the shop, there had to have been at least 10 Challengers in various states of conversion.

A short description of what they do to the cars, and some items may have been left off my list:

    1. Raise the car on a lift to allow steel frame stiffeners to be welded in place underneath the car.
    2. Remove the car seats, door panels, and carpet to allow additional steel to be welded on the interior flooring.
    3. Install a steel side to side brace behind the back seat area.
    4. Install a side to side steel brace over the engine.
    5. Then cut the top off.
    6. Install custom rear quarter glass with power window motors.
    7. Relocate the roof antenna to the trunk lid.
    8. Install convertible top frame, top, hydraulic top motor and switch.
    9. Install custom trim where top was cut and install hard points for front top latches.
    10. Finish out the trunk area with grey felt type material, and include a custom boot cover for the top.
    11. Repaint the newly configured header over the windshield to match the factory car color.

The car looks and handles great. The finishing work is very high end.

I would do it again in a heartbeat, and it was worth every penny.

The owner of the shop was very easy to work with, and actually helped me get the new car from a dealer for a great price first, and then do the conversion to save me money.

Cost of the conversion was 18K.

If anyone else wants to get more info on my experience, or wants to do the same conversion, contact me at [email protected], and I'll be happy to fill you in.

    Mike
