Here is a detailed fact sheet for the 2022 Challenger models and options.

Also, there is news that Stellantis will be offering Hemi-orange and SRT black appearance packages. (Note- These packages are underwhelming and also deceiving, since Hemi-orange paint is not included as part of the packages). Here is the write-up and three photos.

"October 26, 2021 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Just in time for Halloween, Dodge is showcasing two shockingly stylish trims for the2022 Challenger and Charger- new HEMI® Orange and SRT Black appearance packages.

“The HEMI Orange and SRT Black packages offer two distinctive appearance options for the 2022 Dodge Charger and Challenger,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge Brand CEO – Stellantis. “Performance-vehicle owners are unique, and these two packages offer our customers the chance to stand out even more on the street."

The HEMI Orange appearance package, available on GT RWD and Scat Pack Widebody models for Charger and Challenger, pays homage to the iconic HEMI engine that has powered Dodge muscle cars for decades. Like the distinct orange look of early-era HEMI engines, the HEMI Orange package colors outside the lines to create a unique, orange-and-black combination of accents that transform both exterior and interior.

Outside, a new orange accent tracer complements vehicle-length Gunmetal striping, while orange outlines the Midnight Grey Metallic grille and fender badging. On Scat Pack Widebody, orange Brembo six-piston calipers contrast with Carbon Black “Warp Speed” 20-by-11-inch wheels (GT RWD features Brembo four-piston calipers with Medium Gloss Black 20-by-9-inch wheels).

In the cockpit, orange stitching embellishes the instrument panel, door uppers and armrest, console lid, shifter boot and leather flat-bottom steering wheel. The seats also sport orange stitching, as well as a monochromatic Dodge Rhombi seatback logo. For Scat Pack Widebody, an orange-and-black “392” instrument panel badge decorates the inside. Blacked-out interior modifications include the steering wheel bezels, shifter body and cluster trim, cup holder and vent rings.

Ordering for the HEMI Orange package will be available through dealerships starting in the fourth quarter of 2021 with a U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $2,995 for GT RWD (includes Performance Handling package with Brembo four-piston calipers and 20-by-9-inch wheels) and $1,500 for Scat Pack Widebody. A HEMI Orange option will also be offered for the 2022 Durango R/T and R/T Tow N Go, with details and availability to come in the first quarter of 2022.

The SRT Black package, available for Charger and Challenger on the SRT Hellcat and SRT Hellcat Redeye models, offers the option of blacked-out exterior badging and accents. Charger and Challenger join Durango in offering the SRT Black package, which is available on the Durango SRT 392.

Exterior SRT Hellcat badging, including on the grille, fender and spoiler for Challenger and on the grille, fender and decklid for Charger, is modified with a Midnight Grey Metallic appearance. The package is completed with Black Nickel exhaust tips on the Charger SRT, while Black Nickel exhaust tips are standard on Challenger SRT models.

The SRT Black appearance package will also be available for ordering through dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2021 with an MSRP of $695."

Here is Motor Trend's write-up of the 2022 changes.

    "2022 Dodge Challenger: What’s New

The Challenger performance coupe gains a new deluxe security alarm for 2022. It is standard equipment on the 2022 Challenger R/T Scat Pack, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Redeye, and SRT Super Stock models and available on the SXT, SXT AWD, GT, GT AWD, and R/T models via the Driver Convenience Group package. The alarm system includes an Intrusion Module that activates the car's alarm if it senses glass breakage or vehicle movement.

The alarm supplements an earlier announced "Enhanced Security Valet Mode" software patch for V-8 Challengers that limits engine speed to idle when the car detects it has been broken into and started. The engine develops less than 3 horsepower at idle, hardly enough to make the Challenger an effective getaway car. There is also another upgrade for 2015-to-current model-year Challengers with any engine option called Key Programming Lockdown. This prevents thieves from programming new key fobs after breaking into a vehicle."

"Key Programming Lockdown"... I wonder what that costs.

I almost admire Dodge for having the "cojones" to make a big deal out of an appearance package. Especially one that's named after an iconic color when the car - apparently - isn't available in that color.

I guess it gets a little challenging to come up with something new on an aging platform that's nearing the end of an incredible run. Because I have to believe that any (all?) development dollars are being spent on future products ... not current models.

I have to give the marketing, engineering and designer guys credit for making the Challenger desirable after 13 years of production. The classic 1970-1974 model only lasted 5 years.

Is the micro chip shortage going to affect availability of the ordering from the factory the 2022 Challenger?

Analysts have consistently predicted that the micro-chip shortage would ease in 2022. But now, a major chipmaker is warning that it could last into 2023. This could adversely affect new automobile production and prices.

At $39.5 billion, the auto industry makes up less than 9% of chip demand by revenue, according to market research firm IDC. That figure is set to increase by about 10% per year to 2025.

Chips for the automotive sector are made using processes intended to meet safety criteria that are different from those meant for other industries. But they are still fabricated on the same production lines as more sophisticated chips.

The good news is that more than 40 companies have increased capacity for these older type of chips by more than 750,000 per-month from the beginning of 2020 to the end of 2022. The long-term trend, to the end of 2024, is a 17% increase in capacity. Spending on equipment has risen to $4.6 billion in 2021.

I think the chip shortage is being used by the manufacturers to change the way they sell cars. Pretty sure that they like being in control of a "seller's market."

There was a Car & Driver article in the November(?) issue that suggested that future deals will be mainly available on cars that are ordered. They'll then try to sell the cars on the lot at full MSRP ... or higher.

You may be right. It could be a seller's market, just like 2008-2009 when Challengers were selling with "market adjustments." The best deal you could get back then was MSRP. That is what I paid for my 2009 SRT.
