I have heard of people over oiling their K & N air filters resulting in replacing the Mass Airflow Sensor.

That's why I chose the dry Mopar CAI made by AEM. When it gets dirty all you have to do is wash it with soap and water- no oiling.

Is there any differences between this dry material Mopar air filter and a paper air filter that you can buy at your local parts store?

The Mopar CAI filter element is synthetic and is supposed to be less restrictive than a standard paper filter. Also, it is reusable. It may help performance, but I bought it because it looks cool and produces a little more intake sound.

I put a aem dry type for my Ram hemi.Just so I could clean instead of replace.I cannot tell a bit of difference in sound, mileage or performance with this filter compared to factory paper.
I have had vehicles where there was a bit of difference in sound mostly. But never better mpg.

If you notice no differences then why not go with paper so you don't need a back up filter when the air filter is down for drying time? Unless you go through air filters alot because you are in a very dusty environment.

Having a back-up filter is not necessary for me. It only has to be washed every 30,000 miles, unless you live in a particularly arid, dusty climate or venture off road. Then, you need to clean it every 3,000-5,000 miles. I have washed mine once. I did it late on a Saturday and let it dry overnight before re-installing it the next morning.

Also, unless you have a rectangular drop-in synthetic filter, you could not use a paper back-up in a conical-shaped CAI.

Yeah that's true... It's better you wash it with soap and water but some people don't feel that's right

As an option, AEM makes a cleaning solution (for $13.99) that you just spray on and hose off. This is what I use.
