Wheel hop is mainly a product of drivetrain flex. Mostly associated with IRS cars, it happens when the rear tires transition between degrees of traction and the final drive components load and unload torque due to the changes in traction. The rapid loading and unloading of torque produces a mild to severe hammering effect through the final drive components which can be damaging.

wheel hop happens when the tires break loose on launch and due to suspension design try to grab and bounce the tire and wheel assy. up and down rapidly. almost never with a leaf spring rear suspension. almost always with '60's and 70's cars with straight beam rear axles and coil springs

I'd heartily disagree with the comment about a leaf spring suspension not doing it....every one I ever drove did it if you had good traction.

One reason why they made those traction bar kits back then.

Oddly, you chose the one axle/suspension combination that's LEAST likely to generate wheel-hop.

apparently you weren't there to see it. leaf spring/straight beam axles didnot produce wheel hop, thats why all those g.m.s were running around with ladder bars.

I have a 69 Camaro SS that will do it on command. It's a small block 350, about 350 HP with a posi rear end and multi leaf springs. In 69, GM staggered the rear shocks on the axle to help stop wheel hop, driver's side in front of axle, passenger side behind. Can't say it help much. The 67-68 models had both shock mounted behind the axle.

Apparently you've never heard of "axle-wrap". Do yourself a favor and look it up. And yes, I was around to see it. I've seen it many times in my 61 years.
