Interesting video. A Demon (840 hp.), which runs the 1/4 mile in 9.65 sec. (on a prepped surface), should be able to beat a 2023 Corvette Z06 (670 hp.), which runs it at 10.51 sec.

That was not the case, however. The driver of the Demon, despite lowering the rear tire pressure and doing a burnout, could not get full traction until 3rd gear. The result was that the lighter, mid-engine Vette beat it easily.

In the rolling quarter mile race, where traction was not an issue, the Vette barely nosed the Demon out.

The lighter weight of the Z06 (846 lbs. less) plays a major role in its performance.

The Demon weighs 4,280 lbs. and has 840 hp. The Z06 weights only 3,434 lbs. and has 670 hp. When you plug these numbers into the following ET calculator, you get almost identical numbers. This is illustrated by the results of the photo-finish rolling race.

    Demon- 10.02 [email protected] mph.
    Z06- 10.04 [email protected] mph

There's no way the 2023 Zo6 can be bought for $128k, or the Demon for $110 in Canada. That Z06 will be tough to beat on the street.

Let's put them on a prepared drag strip, they will both have same traction then.

We truly live in an amazing time. You can go to a dealer and buy cars, like a Scat Pack, Hellcat, Redeye or Demon, that can run in the 9-12 sec. range. Back in the "golden age" of muscle cars, the fastest street cars were running in the 13s.

In 1971, Ronnie Sox's Pro Stock HEMI 'Cuda was running in the mid-9s.

What is funny is to watch Chevy (or the execrable) Tesla types bray and shriek about how their car is faster.

I don't care if an ugly whore is crowned the best girlfriend on Earth because the US government pays the judges taxpayers' money to say so.

I still don't want her and never will.

And the Corvette? They, too have forums where they can bray about how their half-ton-lighter mid-engine car can accelerate better than whatever.

The fact is, one isolated race with some shrieker shrieking about how his Corvette beat a Demon in one instance means absolutely nothing.

The Demon still holds the record, and the way things are going, it always will.

You know who the king is: the car that doesn't have owners who slither around looking for races against others then braying about how they beat them because the other car didn't have adequate traction.

The bigger your flag, the less you have to wave it.
