I'm testing the older guys memories here. I pulled this like new original 'spare' tire out of my 1974 AMC Matador X when I owned it. The tire was not holding air. Did any of the 1st gen Challengers or 'Cudas have them originally? When I had my 'Cuda the originals and the spare were long gone before I bought it. It's a cool looking tire with that rounded radial look. I still display it in my man cave since it's an original nearly 50 year old tire.
The Goodyear Steelguard is a replica radial tire that was developed, in 2011, by Kelsey Tire Company. Like a resto-mod car, it combines the advantages of modern technology with old school looks. In 1971, my 'Cuda 340 came stock with Goodyear white-lettered F70X14 Polyglas tires. The AAR and T/A came with E60X15 (front) and G60X15 (rear) Goodyear Polyglas GT. The Hemi cars came with F60X15 Goodyear Polyglas GT. They did, however, offer a white-lettered Polysteel radial on their trucks.
Thanks for the info about the Chrysler cars but NO, this is not a replica. The AMC Matador X models definitely came with them. When I owned my Matador X another owner was really wanting to buy mine for his fully restored 401 V8 car, probably for a spare for 'show' only. You made me look up info to verify my statement and I found this as well from the Universal Tire site. Remember not liking the rounded radial look compared to the flatness of the bias plys (but they quit making the latter and we had little choice but to switch).
