    oil filters

I also have a 15 with 5.7 and 6 speed. Did my first oil change around 500 miles and changed to Mobil 1 5W20. I typically use Purolator filters (took several brands apart to see how they were constructed). I use the standard Purolator filter but one problem I ran into was that the Purolator catalog listed the wrong filter - L12222. The correct Purolator filter is L24651.

The original Mopar part number is 04884899AB if you want to cross it over.

I have used the Purolator PureOne filter. Other good ones as the Mobil 1 and SRT filters.

Here is a good photo showing the plastic engine shield (#2) that has to be removed in order to gain access to the oil filter and drain plug. (Note- This is actually a Charger but it is virtually identical to a Challenger).

Just changed oil. Filter was very tight. Used end cap filter wrench.
Hand screwed new Mobil-1 [ M1-210 ] filter on ,then 3/4 more turn with wrench. Added 7 qts. Mobile 1 synthetic.
Started car and it blew out oil around the filter.
Then got another 3/4 turn on filter and it sealed.
I've changed my own oil for 40 plus years with no problem.
    This really stumped me.
Noticed a great deal in engine smoothness with the change [ 1000 miles].

I'd make a quick check to make sure that none of the old filter gasket stayed behind when you removed the filter. Especially since you said that the old filter was difficult to remove.

You certainly wouldn't be the first veteran oil changer to leave a bit of filter gasket behind.

Hope I'm not thread jacking here, but has anyone used a magnetic oil drain plug or know where I can get one for my '15 Chally? I had one on my Charger that I traded in, and the company that I bought it from has gone out of business.
