The top speed ever achieved on land was by Royal Air Pilot Andy Green, in a dual jet-powered car- the Thrust SSC (110,000 hp.). It broke the sound barrier and topped out at 763 mph! (Note- Chutes came out at 400 mph to slow it down).

On water, the highest top speed achieved was 317.6 mph, by Australian pilot Ken Warby in the jet‑powered hydroplane Spirit of Australia on October 8, 1978. Unofficially, Warby reached an estimated344.86 mph on November 20, 1977 at the same location.
