    The Matador was AMC's attempt at a fastback design. They didn't go as radical as other brands, however, because they wanted to retain rear headroom.

    Doesn't the Javelin AMX precede the Matador as AMC's earliest fastback? Unfortunate that Dodge didn't recess the wipers on my 2010 R/T. Do any current gen Challenger's have this feature?

    You are correct. The AMX was first produced in 1968. The Matador was built from 1971-1978 (the fastback versions from 1974-1978).
