... and the rear of my '74. I'd like to have it back, but I say that for so many of my old rides. I would need a 12 car garage. You just have to move on. '74 Matador in 2015 004.jpg

    Katshot for the Win!

When I was a kid, one of our neighbors worked for AMC. His son was always miffed/jealous that the '66 Charger got praise for its fastback design while the Marlin was generally ignored.

    :33: Thanks Rollin!
IMHO, although the Marlin and Charger were quite similar in overall design, the Charger carried it off better. The Marlin, being an AMC, was hampered by both a shoestring budget and a meddling CEO. I like the Charger's overall looks better and certainly prefer the car's actual sportiness versus the Marlin's sporty looks. The Charger drove like a sporty car whereas the Marlin only looked like one.

The Charger also had a better motor.

A lot of guys thought the Marlin's roofline looked clunky and out of proportion to the rest of the car. AMC wanted to make sure there was enough headroom in the rear seat so adult could fit comfortably. The rear portion of the roof sat up too high, didn't look as streamlined as the Charger.

Apparently that was due to the CEO. An article I read said that it was originally more streamlined but when the CEO banged his head while checking out a pre-production mule, he had them raise it to make more head room, effectively ruining the look of the car.

Big car customizer's dream canvas, but wouldn't fit in too many residential garages. rambler-marlin-1896.jpg

Yes, age 74 and bought my 2020 SXT last July.

    My other cars.

Not pictured are my Crown Vic and Dakota PU. My Dodges outnumber my Fords.

Kind of, but not to someone who's 2nd car was a '67 Charger:
