Watch this informative video from Uncle Tony's Garage. He discusses oil filter bypass valves and why your engine is unprotected during high oil pressure situations with most canister-type oil filters. This is why I use the SRT oil filter (Part #05038041AA) in my 2009 SRT. The high flow oil pumps in our large HEMI engines can overpower the internal relief valve. When this valve opens it allows some of the high-pressure dirty oil to bypass the filter element in order to keep the filter from being damaged. SRT filters have a higher-pressure differential bypass valve to make sure all the oil delivered to your engine, at cold starts and high demand, is clean. Originally designed for Viper applications, it fits the 5.7, 6.1 and 6.4 Hemi engines (SRT M0-041, Part #05038041AA). Note- You can also use the Wix 550763.
Tom, O'reily does not have a Wix oil filter with the number 550763. I put in 45 years at Chrysler and I thought I knew Mopars well. You have me beat. Keep up the good posting, your tips are the best. BTW, I have a loaded 2020 Challenger Scatpack manual with a shaker hood. I had a 71 HEMI Cuda, I loved that car but I was under the hood more than behind the wheel. I fouled plugs almost daily. Of course the fouled plug was numbers 5 and 7. I had to remove the power brake booster to remove the plugs. HELPt
