One year later I'm still reaching for the PREMIUM gas pump.

A few years ago I read an article in Automotive News (linked below) that said the manufacturers were pushing for Regular gasoline to have a 95 octane rating. That would align our Regular with what it is in Europe.

The minimum octane for the 6.1 and 6.4 Hemi engines is 91, but 93 is better.

For the 5.7, 89 octane is recommended for peak performance, but 87 can be used.

For the best mileage and performance, the higher-octane recommendations should be followed.

Curious if in the event 93 isn't available could a lower grade be used with octane booster? With the gas shortage earlier this year it was a challenge finding 93 for a while.

I've been using premium for all of my cars. I feel a difference, especially if the vehicle has a four banger. Besides that, the fuel burns cleaner and will lead to engine longevity. The research is out there.

Well at least your not making the mistake of filling it up with diesel! I've seen that happen.

Here in the East Texas area where I live we have 87, 89 and 93. Some stations have 92.

I did that on my Rte 66 trip this past Spring in my Trans Am which is real fussy about having 93 octane. I had trouble in some areas along the trip getting 93, with 91 being the highest available. I believe it helped as the pinging seemed minimal. I'm just not sure if one small bottle of octane booster really affects the entire tank of gas, but certainly no harm in adding it. I did it and I'd do it again even if it helps just a little.

My car is supercharged and tuned for 92 octane.
