On October 16, Senators Richard Burr (R-NC) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) reintroduced the “Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act” before the U.S. Senate. If passed into law, the bill would cement the legality of street-to-strip conversions involving removing cars’ EPA-mandated emissions controls.

This legislation is highly supported by SEMA. Under a 2015 proposed regulation, no emission control equipment could be removed on any street to strip conversion. The penalty for violation was $37,500.
