3.6L Timing Chain Issue Summary

32 freaking mpg at 75mph.
With a blower, no less.

 

Ripp advertises that you'll get 1-4mpg BETTER mileage by adding a supercharger, because the increased air flow makes your engine run better. I went to Minneapolis before adding the supercharger when my car was stock and I got 29.7mpg.

 

This sounds very familiar same as the V8 5.7 and 392 engines in that you must change that oil every 6 months.

 

I think it's even more important to keep it at the full level than to change it that often.

 

Absolutely. Who would think the oil could get that low. Though the pentastar motor Does have 3 oil piston coolers that must spray the oil when needed, probably under heavy load, towing, racing ect.

 

Always keep it full never let it go down. Who does that?

 

Both are very important.

 

Or just put straight 90 weight in it.

Well, the good news is your engine metal-on-metal friction has been pretty well eliminated.

The bad news is that it gets 7mpg!

 

The thought of designing some pistons that are non-interference fit for the 3.6 comes to mind. Same compression but REALLY deep valve pockets. They'd look like F1 pistons, I think.



This particular piston has such huge intake valves compared the little exhaust valves, it is not at all indicative of a supercharged engine.

Observe the very tall areas surrounding the valve pockets though they are called "quench areas" they are also for making sure compression is kept up for maximum power. I have seen them even more extreme than this, with the valve pockets on the edges and even a small tub in the middle, with massively built-up areas all around it, so the valve pockets were quite deep.
