A few more officers in this apparently poor black neighborhood might have prevented the theft. From comments heard from the residents, speeding, and perhaps thefts, are serious issues. Of course stopping blacks is 'racist' so maybe more police wouldn't work either.
Adding more police may help slow down the problem, but it won't stop it. In my area its a game they play to see if the cops will chase knowing that if they drive fast enough the police will call it off. I'm tired of those who complain about crime saying we need more police (while defunding them). Law enforcement can't be everywhere. That's trying to fix the symptom. We need to fix the PROBLEM. Why are these kids doing it in the first place? (guns, shootings, car jackings, stealing...) Where's the discussion about their parent(s), guardian, community leaders in all this? How were these kids brought up? This stuff will continue until the problem is fixed. Sorry about venting, but I feel better now.
That's been going on for a long time in cities that stopped pursuits. Tampa was experiencing that even back in the late 90's when I still lived in the area. Incredibly stupid leadership decisions. Imagine living in Philly where they are banning police from making stops for minor traffic offenses. WOW!! License plate violations alone lead to many arrests for outstanding warrants and having suspended driver's licenses. These people should not be on the road. What's next? Speeding? Stop signs?
