What is a Toledo Torch?

    Does anyone remember these cartoon-looking flaming roadside "bombs."

    They were known as a Toledo Torches, or flare pots- basically, steel balls, filled with kerosene, that burned using lantern-type wicks.

    They were safety devices used on road construction sites but were replaced by road flares and traffic barrels in the 1970s.
